Published by agrabilitypa on

It was that time of year…the annual National Training Workshop (NTW) took place March 20-24 in Spokane, WA -- hosted by Washington AgrAbility and the National AgrAbility Project (NPA). Abbie Spackman and Kendra Martin attend the NTW and from the sessions to the special events – it was a memorable week of connecting with colleagues and re-energizing around the mission of AgrAbility. Sessions and presentations from the week have been posted to NAP's website -- check them out!

Presentations to agricultural groups kept staff moving during the month of March

- Kendra Martin, outreach coordinator, presented at the Northumberland County Conservation District’s winter forum on March 14 for farmers and agricultural workers in the northeastern Pennsylvania. Content included AgrAbility services, assistive technology examples, and funding resources.

- Abbie Spackman, project assistant, represented AgrAbility PA at The Western PA Grazing Conference on March 16. This conference focused on sustainable grazing practices and attendees included farmers from across Pennsylvania, primarily beef, sheep, and goat producers. AgrAbility provided information on assistive technology related to livestock, grazing, weather exposure, and more.

- Carolyn Henzi, graduate student, presented “Managing Stress on the Farm” for Spanish-speaking farm supervisors in Spanish on March 31 to more than 70 attendees. Learn more about stress and agriculture and resources to assist in The Farmer Stress Management Toolbox, which includes articles in both English and Spanish.

Assistive Technology (AT) on the Farm

AgrAbility PA staff created a handout to use for outreach and education with farmers – A Guide to Low-Tech AT on the Farm. This handout outlines a variety of low-tech -- and in most cases low cost -- AT options for farmers and agricultural workers to use while working with a disability, health condition, or functional limitation.
