February 2019: AgrAbility PA Project Highlights

February was a cold and snowy month across much of the state, but staff members traveled to places near and far to connect with farmers.

AgrAbility PA provided hands-on demos and activities with a focus on preventing secondary injuries during the Penn State Ag Safety Expo. Attendees included college faculty and staff, ag students, FFA chapters, first responders, and farm families. Activities and demos during the expo included grain bin safety, ATV safety, chain saw safety, farm emergency response, large animal rescue, and more! Staff members Abbie Spackman and Linda Fetzer attended the event.

Abbie Spackman spoke with PA Farm Bureau members about stress and pain management during their Northeast Regional Winter Meeting. Attendees included farmers, farm family members, and agribusiness professionals. The session included tips and resources for self care and information on when and how to seek professional assistance. Many attendees shared experiences they’ve had with stress and health impacting their ability to remain active on their farm. Many positive stories were also shared by the group.

AgrAbility PA participated in the Lebanon County Extension Crop Conference. This day-long event provides farmers and agricultural workers with agricultural policy updates, research results, continuing education credits, and networking opportunities. AgrAbility PA provided an interactive booth focusing on back health, hand health, and related assistive technology and DIY modifications. Staff members Abbie Spackman and Kendra Martin attended the event.
