February 2018: AgrAbility PA Project Highlights
PASA Annual Conference, Tree Fruit School, and AgrAbility PA mentioned in Hoard's Dairyman are a few highlights from February.
AgrAbility PA staff participated in the annual Farming for the Future Conference hosted by the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA). This was an excellent opportunity to share AgrAbility PA information with farmers, educators, community and state leaders, and network with other exhibitors. AgrAbility PA staff talked to visitors about grip strength, hand health, common hand injuries, and assistive technology that can assist individuals with limited grip strength. Â
AgrAbility PA staff participated in the President’s Day Commercial Tree Fruit School, located in one of the largest apple producing regions in the county. Sessions at this event are offered in English and Spanish to accommodate the diverse group of attendees. AgrAbility PA staff offered resources in Spanish and spoke to attendees about preventing overuse injuries. AgrAbility PA staff also used this as an opportunity to connect with the local extension office and extension educators in the tree fruit industry.
AgrAbility PA and the National AgrAbility Project were featured in the print edition of Hoard's Dairyman in late February. AgrAbility PA's Dwight Heller, who works as an occupational therapist, AgrAbility PA's outreach coordinator Kendra Martin, and AgrAbility client farmers Todd Zimmerman and brothers Colby and Tim Lehman were quoted in the article.
